Considering I've been hearing about Rosetta Stone for years I'm surprised it so difficult to even get started. I'll make one more attempt, removing the application and re-adding it, if that doesn't work, it's going back. I like French one but HATE this one Reviewed in Canada on August 28, 2015 Platform: PC/Mac Disc Edition: Japanese Verified Purchase The text is in Japanese - how can I read what I am supposed to say when they use Japanese characters instead of the alphabet. I'm forced to learn how to pronounce it based only on audio. With other languages, like French, you can read the words and listen to the pronunciation of the words which together make it a good way to learn. With the Japanese version, unless you can read Japanese characters, you only get to learn how to pronounce it based on the audio. This limits its effectiveness way too much. Did not do more than one lesson. Very disappointing - felt ripped off! Instructions on how to use as clear as mud Reviewed in Canada on May 8, 2013 Platform: PC/Mac Disc Edition: Japanese Verified Purchase This product may have plenty of bells and whistles, but what it does not have are clear cut instructions as to what you are to do.
Es lento pero seguro. Pero para comprarlo tienes que ser una persona comprometida a estudiar, comprar este articulo equivale a que estudies por tu cuenta y quieras auto superarte. Waiting For Godot's Dog 1. 0 out of 5 stars Better Off Going Back to School Reviewed in Canada on October 14, 2017 Platform: PC/Mac Disc Edition: Japanese Verified Purchase Should a product be rated on its potential or its efficacy? If it is the latter then this was a failure — no one speaks Japanese in this house. 1. 0 out of 5 stars Garbage Reviewed in Canada on November 1, 2014 Platform: PC/Mac Disc Edition: Japanese Verified Purchase This has been a terrible experience. Had to contact support to activate the application, then after a few more days and still unable to create a user name and password, again spent over 2 hours on line with support and there only suggestion was for me to let them have access to my computer, right. At least one of their web pages had an expired certificate. It looks like the didn't have anyone proof read a couple of their web pages.
A screen comes up with pretty pictures but nothing to explain what is expected from the user, are you to just look at the pretty pictures are you to repeat the strange noises made by the speaker, or are you to mouse click on the picture that represents what was said in a foreign language you do not as yet understand. It takes longer finding out what they want your response to be than the entire lesson. In my opinion it is a total waste of money.
At this point, I don't think I could construct a decent sentence if I had relied on Rosetta Stone alone. You end up just parroting back the sentences that are tossed at you. I chose not to use the romaji option instead using mostly hiragana, so spent time translating the sentences so that I could speak them back without missing words or mumbling parts I hadn't caught. The lesson sections that contained choices for word particles were a joke, as there is no way you can fully grasp what you should be using after certain words and why the word is used. I bought another textbook to address this. Bottom line, is that while this has nice visuals and allows you to hear the spoken language, I don't think you can truly learn the Japanese language in any functional way without using other sources and spending extra money. Also, I expected to provide my own headset/mic and if you purchase this program you should too, as the unit provided will not even work with the program. I am still persevering with this program but I have little confidence that I can construct coherent sentences from using this software alone.
